David Goldwerd, MHC, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who is creative, caring, and dedicated to the work I do. I specialize in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and other related disorders, such as excoriation (Skin Picking or Dermatillomania) and Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling Disorder). I also have a great deal of experience in providing treatment for Specific Phobias, Social Phobia, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Panic Disorder. Living with these disorders can be crippling. I have years of experience working with my clients in helping them achieve a well-balanced life.

I work with my clients as a team. I use a structured evidenced-based approach in the work we do. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the number one treatment for treating OCD and Other Related Disorders, as well as a vast array of anxiety disorders. I work with my clients by helping them identify irrational thought patterns/changing how you think, which enables them to dis-confirm their fears. This is called Cognitive Restructuring.

When I am working with OCD, we will use additional interventions, such as Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). In using ERP, I will help you face your fears, which breaks the obsessive-compulsive cycle. When working with Impulsive Disorders such as Excoriation (Skin Picking Disorder) and Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling Disorder) I use a combination of CBT and mindfulness to help you become aware of when, where, and how you engage in these behaviors. Once you become aware, we will utilize techniques to help you effectively deal with the urges and sensations. I will be by your side every step of the way to ensure you have a positive, successful journey!

I have a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling, and I am licensed in the state of Connecticut. I have years of training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as OCD and Other Related Disorder training by David Tollen who is one of the most well-known experts in the field.

I have dealt with crippling anxiety for a good portion of my life, and I find joy in helping others obtain a sense of contentment.

I work primarily with adults; however, I will work with children 10 and up as long as the parents are involved and are invested in their child’s treatment.
